Making a Donkey of Myself Week 1 Edition
The spreads used were the ones off the "expert picks" page on CBS. I am not an expert, this is just for fun. Feel free to leave comments or participate if you wish. Please keep it friendly though.
Titans vs Steelers (-5.5)
Titans
I think this will be a very close game, with a field goal being the margin of victory. So I'm taking the Titans with the points.
Dolphins vs Falcons (-3.5)
Dolphins
I think the Dolphins and Falcons are 2 teams that are very close to one another in terms of skill. My gut is telling Dolphins even though it will be in Atlanta. I'll probably be wrong, but I'll stick with it.
Chiefs vs Ravens (-12.5)
Chiefs
I fully expect the Ravens to win, but I don't have much confidence in the Ravens offense in terms of putting up alot of points. I'll take the Chiefs with the points.
Eagles vs Panthers (+1.5)
Eagles
This will probably be a really good game that ends up being close. I trust Donovan McNabb more than I do Jake Delhomme though. I think the Eagles defense can at least slow the Panthers rushing attack down enough to make Delhomme beat them with the pass. I don't think he can get it done.
Broncos vs Bengals (-4.5)
Bengals
I keep hearing about how the Bengals defense has improved. They also have Carson Palmer back, so the offense should be decent. The Broncos probably won't be very good this year, so I'm going with the Bengals here.
Vikings vs Browns ( +3.5)
Vikings
The Browns looked dreadful during preseason. The Vikings will probably roll them over.
Jets vs Texans (-4.5)
Texans
With the Jets giving Mark Sanchez his first start as a rookie, I like the Texans to take care of business at home.
Jaguars vs Colts (-7.5)
Jaguars
The Jags always play the Colts tough, and I think they will keep it close. I'll take the Jags with the points.
Lions vs Saints (-12.5)
Saints
Rookie Matthew Stafford is making his first start on a team that went 0-16 last year. The Saints can put up alot of points and I've been hearing their defense has improved from last year. I smell blowout.
Cowboys vs Bucaneers (+5.5)
Cowboys
I don't have much faith in the Bucaneers after all the changes they went through this offseason. As much as it pains me to pick the Cowboys, I have too.
49ers vs Cardinals (-6.5)
49ers
I think the 49ers will play the Cardinals close. Cardinals also didn't look right during the preseason.
Redskins vs Giants (-6.5)
Redskins
Both teams can play defense and run the ball well. Both teams passing games are question marks at this point. I'll take the Redskins and the points in what I figure will be a close game.
Rams vs Seahawks (-8.5)
Seahawks
With their team relatively healthy compared to last year, I think the Seahawks will be alot better. I think they can dispatch the Rams easily here.
Bears vs Packers (-3.5)
Packers
Homer alert: I think the Packers win by over a touchdown.
Bills vs Patriots (-10.5)
Patriots
Tom Brady is back. The Bills offense was beyond terrible in the preseason. I believe Marshawn Lynch is suspended. It all spells blow out.
Chargers vs Raiders (+9.5)
Chargers
Talent wise the Chargers are way better than the Raiders. I think the Chargers will win easily.
Total so far: 0-0

Making a Donkey of Myself Week 1 EditionHillis=Beast: Yes, I was wrong to put faith in the Bengals. Congratulations to the Broncos for winning. You can't get all the picks right, but if you look how I did overall (10-4) with 2 Monday night games to go, I did pretty well. I made the mistake of picking based on what I've heard from other sources. I heard the Bengals were improved and the Broncos were going to be terrible this season. I didn't get to see any of either team during the preseason, so I had nothing to go on but that, and ended up being wrong. The Broncos did end up winning on kind of a fluke play though...
Beeracudas: Yeah, I shoulda known better than to trust the Bungles. Results from the week so far with crow being eaten on wrong picks: Titans @ Steelers (-5.5): Titans, Right Dolphins @ Falcons (-3.5): Dolphins, Wrong My head said Falcons and my gut said Dolphins. I trusted my gut and was wrong. Note to self: the brain is in the head. Chiefs @ Ravens (-12.5): Chiefs, Wrong I was totally wrong on how I thought this game was going to play out. I thought both teams would score low; Ravens coming out on top. The game ended up high scoring with the Ravens being over the spread. This one kind of hurt, if you saw the ending at all. Ravens had 4th and goal with like 30 seconds left. A field goal puts the game out of reach, but keeps it in the spread. They plowed ahead for a touchdown which made me sad lol. Eagles @ Panthers (+1.5): Eagles, Right Broncos @ Bengals (-4.5): Bengals, Wrong I trusted the Bungles to win a game. Shame on me. Vikings @ Browns (+3.5): Vikings, Right Jets @ Texans (-4.5): Texans, Wrong I totally underestimated Mark Sanchez and the Jets' defense. Sanchez played very well in his first career start on the road. The Texans offense played BADLY. Jaguars @ Colts (-7.5): Jaguars, Right Lions @ Saints (-12.5): Saints, Right Cowboys @ Buccaneers (+5.5): Cowboys, Right 49ers @ Cardinals (-6.5): 49ers, Right Redskins @ Giants (-6.5): Redskins, Right Rams @ Seattle: Seahawks (-8.5), Right Bears @ Packers: Packers (-3.5), Right 10 Rights, 4 Wrongs (excluding Monday night games as they haven't been played yet) I probably won't be posting these here anymore. I'll probably move this over to the Packers message board. |

Making a Donkey of Myself Week 1 EditionOnly the Bengals can pull a defeat out of a victory. So horribly deflating to lose like that.

Making a Donkey of Myself Week 1 EditionBroncos will beat Cincy. If we are underdogs take whatever the points are, we could very well beat them by two touchdowns (even without that messiah-like Cutler!)

Making a Donkey of Myself Week 1 Editiongavinvl1: The picks are agains the spread. I think the Giants will win the game, but the Redskins will keep in close. The spread is 6.5 points. The pick is the Redskins is to either win or lose by less than a touchdown. I picked Redskins, because I thought they would lose by less than 7 points. |

Making a Donkey of Myself Week 1 Editionreally? The Skins over the G-Men??? Hummm...okay - I hope that everyone doubts them...that's when they're at their best! - just figured that this was a lay up. $100M doesn't buy you a defense that can stop (arguably) the best O-line and 2/3 of last years best backfield in the NFL...
